Our Story
A Child's Hope was developed as a Christian/humanitarian effort when we, Rick, Teresa, and Madison Gilbert, began the journey towards adopting a little girl from China. Our family's decision to adopt is best described as an inherent desire to want to make our family grow by adopting. That desire is, in short, an unbelievable feeling that we have always had trouble putting into words. You can visit our own testimonies page or the stories page on www.awaa.org to get a feel for it, but the essence of the desire is this: you spend your whole life knowing that you want to adopt a special child into your life the same way God invites all of us into His loving care. It is difficult to put it any other way for us.
While in the process of helping our own family grow, we decided that we wanted to help other families find financial solutions to funding private adoptions. As it still is with A Child’s Hope today, that help found itself in the form of fundraisers. We also realized the abundance of children who are labeled "special needs," and our second goal rapidly became the ability to offer grants to special needs children. This is a goal that is seeing itself through even as you read this because of so many caring hearts and individuals.
As such, we recognize the great work that other humanitarian agencies are doing, and we are committed to donating a percentage of the proceeds we raise with specific fundraisers to their efforts. They are organizations like Half the Sky, Love Without Boundaries, and others that you can find on our links page.
